Kristen Stewart didn't become popular until the first Twilight movie. However, she has successfully played other roles for which she has received many accolades.

Most of Kristen Stewart's fans know her from The Twilight Saga movies, where she plays Bella Swan. Although this role is what has brought her to fame, Stewart has also been cast in quite a few other movies.

A couple of recent roles have won the actress much praise from fellow actors and fans alike. It seems as if Stewart is branching out successfully beyond her role in Twilight. Although the fame from the vampire movies will stick with Stewart for a while, the actress will still shine long after Twilight fades.

Kristen Stewart in The Yellow Handkerchief

This movie was produced before Stewart was even cast for Twilight, but was not picked up until recently after being discovered at the Sundance Film Festival. The Yellow Handkerchief is an independent film, which wasn't expected to hit theaters, but it did get noticed largely due to Stewart.

It can't be denied that Stewart's Twlilight fame had something to do with The Yellow Handkerchief's sudden fame. But, the young actress received much praise from the cast, especially from her co-star Maria Bello who said Stewart has staying-power.

"I think that the Twilight thing is just a bunch of bells and whistles, because I think she will have an amazing career... I was so impressed with her depth and integrity, and I was so thrilled to do this film with her." Bello said about Stewart on a February 21 article on Limelife.com by Susie Anderson. Bello is an accomplished actress herself, having earned two Golden Globe nominations.

Kristen Stewart in The Runaways

In The Runaways, Stewart plays the legendary girl rocker Joan Jett. The movie is about how Jett began her career as a musician and became part one of the first real rocker girl bands.

Just by seeing the photos of Stewart in her role for The Runaways one can see how much she looks like Jett. But it goes farther than just the looks.

According to Jett, Stewart was great to work with and really nailed her character. "I found us to be really, scarily similar, just in our physicality, the way we move through space." Jett said in a February 23 article on Interview Magazine. "(S)he is so authentic. The thing that came through to me was that it was important to her to capture it. She really wanted to nail it." Jett added

Jett also said that Stewart would watch her and try to get all her movements and mannerisms just right, which she got perfectly when filming.

Other Roles For Kristen Stewart

Stewart has also had a handful of recent secondary roles in movies including Adventureland, Jumper, Into the Wild and What Just Happened. She also earned much praise for her role in the indy film Welcome to the Rileys in which she plays a troubled young woman. The movie was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.

Of course, the much anticipated Twilight Saga: Eclipse movie comes out this summer, where Stewart will continue her portrayal of Bella Swan. Although the vampire girlfriend role may not win any awards, it will surely break box office records, as well as many young women's hearts!

I feel like I'm reading about a different person; I was happy that, at least, when all the little girls reading twilight grow up and grow some sense, I wouldn't have to hear about k. stewart again...she's just a terrible actress. Looks-wise a good choice for Jett (though not nearly as attractive; sorry, lame-schoolboy-Joan Jett-crush), though I can't help but feel she'll fail miserably in the performance.
